Which Antivirus is best?
The short answer is that there are several good antivirus programs for Windows machines. Windows Defender performs well, is compatible to the core with Windows since it's made by Microsoft, and is free and basically ad-free.  Analysis by both AVTest.org ( https://www.av-test.org/en/ ) and AVComparitives.org https://www.av-comparatives.org/ rank Windows Defender, Symantec (Norton), McAfee, Avast, AVG, BitDefender, F-Secure, and Vipre at the top for "real-world" threat protection and performance.  The better answer is that the simple computer virus is much less than the primary threats considered today and even for anti-virus-only evaluation, we consider more criteria than effect and performance including credibility.  AVG and Kaspersky are not trusted. Because Avast uses the AVG engine, it is not trusted.  As part of a comprehensive threat protection strategy, we make the following recommendations as minimum PC protection:
1. Password on every administrative account.
2. Windows Defender Firewall because it's better than nothing at all and Windows Defender Antivirus. 3. Malwarebytes AntiRansomWare INSTEAD OF the well-known Malwarebytes Antimalware antivirus by the same manufacturer.
4. Bitdefender free antivirus
5. Change the DNS resolver on the PC and on the Router (See the DNS section)
6. Use a good VPN. We recommend Proton for free or Nord or Proton for paid based upon price, strength, and versatility.
7. A private browser such as Tor for general curiosities and a hardened version of Firefox with the suggested plugins for banking or shopping usage (duckduckgo & privacy badger).

Which Web-browser is best?
We presently recommend Tor Browser or the latest version of Firefox with the DuckDuckGo and Privacy Badger plugins for more secure browsing. Tor is built on Firefox with the privacy plugins built in and the privacy settings already done. With Firefox, we recommend changing a lot of settings including disabling telemetry, password storage, and 3rd party cookies and trackers, plus turning on advertising opt-out and do-not-track requests.
We recommend Firefox and over Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, Puffin, Opera, and Safari for the following reasons:
1. Speed. Firefox was the fastest to render content of all browsers tested and as fast to load as the other major browsers.  Starts fast, loads web pages fast.
2. Privacy record.  Puffin is good, but recently began requiring location data to work.
Chrome is half-way a spy tool for Google.
Edge is half-way a spy tool for Microsoft.
Safari has horrible privacy settings by default.
CTRL-SHIFT-P similar to Edge.
3. Security. With the plugins we recommend or what comes built into the TOR browser build, it is the most secure of all major browsers.  Mozilla, the non-profit which built and maintains Firefox has good funding and Firefox is used millions to discover vulnerabilities quickly and the Firefox community has tons of support to help patch vulnerabilities rapidly and deploy those fixes right away just like Microsoft or Google.
Microsoft advises against using Internet Explorer now.
4. Compatibility. Firefox keeps up with web technologies such as HTML4, Flash, .PDF files, etc.  Most websites don't break when Firefox is used. Chrome was second.

How do I set my default printer in Windows 10?
1. At the bottom right corner of the screen, Click on the rectangular "Notifications" icon.
2. At the bottom,click on the gear icon "All Settings" gray box.
3. If necessary, click on the little back arrow at the upper left corner of the window.

How do I transfer files between my Android phone and my computer?
While there are several ways to transfer files which will work for 1 or two at a time (such as emailing them to yourself), there are more efficient ways to transfer lots of files depending on the type and systems in use. for Windows 10 machines and Android phones, there is a fairly simple process to make your phone work like a flash drive.
1. find a suitable USB cable to connect your PC and Phone. One end should fit into charging port for the cell. This might be a c-type USB (oval with no corners on the end), lightning which is a rounded sort of card-looking connection, micro USB (most phones through 2015), or rarely a mini USB or other connection. 2. Windows should detect and begin installing or loading the drivers for your phone.
3. Windows will ask what you you would like to do with this device. From the list, select set up to transfer files.
4. The Android phone should have a notification from "Android System" that says "Charging" and "Tap to change USB options." Tap there and then find "File Transfer" on them menu. Tap the circle next to this option.
5. Open file manager in Windows (the folder icon with a blue clip, usually at the bottom of the screen toward the left)
6. Copy and paste files, drag and drop or upload like you would with any flash drive or other attached storage.
To transfer files to the cloud, you usually must first set up an account with a third party vendor, though on Android you will normally already be signed in with Google.  This gives you access to 15GB of free Gdrive cloud storage.  While we have serious concerns about the privacy policies and practices of Google moving forward, it is usually a convenient process on modern Android devices to
1. go into file manager
2. click the three dots at the upper right-hand corner of the screen
3. and select "share"
4. check boxes next to each folder you wish to transmit (DCIM, Camera, Screenshots, and Gallery, for example)
5. tap the word "SHARE" toward the bottom of the screen, then select your cloud drive, service or method.
6. Click your share method from the menu that pops up and continue from there.

Another way to share to a cloud drive on Android is to:
1. open the file manager
2. tap the three dots in the upper left corner, tap "Upload to Cloud" option.
3. Continue from there.
X. If you have not set up a cloud drive you will need to follow the directions below, first:
1. Open "Settings" by clicking on the grey gear icon.
2. Scroll down to accounts
3. In advanced at the bottom, find "Cloud"
4. Click "Add Account" at the bottom right.

Different types of files (such as the phone's operating system software, your contacts, your downloads, pictures taken by the camera) may be stored in different places depending on your settings. Some files may be stored on both your SD and your phone's internal storage or both your SD and the cloud.  There are also several clouds where files may be. Phone manufacturers such as LG, Apple, and Samsung offer their own clouds; cellular carriers, such as Verizon and T-mobile offer their own clouds; and third parties such as Google and Microsoft offer their own clouds which are often natively supported by modern phone operating systems. Can I stream content from my phone to my FireStick or Roku?
YES!  Will it be easy... Maybe, maybe not.  It depends on a lot of factors including WIFI access and cell provider, phone, and streaming device type.  The technologies built into smart devices and modern cell phones are perfectly capable of connecting and streaming video, however, in many cases, manufacturers, service providers and network administrators disallow sending video traffic over some wifi connections or through some apps. Why won't my streaming device recognize my smart device over Public WIFI?
There are several ways that two devices won't be able to see each other. The first is that two devices that are connected to different networks can't usually see each other.  So, if a cell phone is on wireless data and a printer is on a WIFI network, they can't talk. The phone will have to join the same network as the printer. This can be a tricky problem when a smart phone knows or has used the same network, but WIFI is turned off, such as when the phone is in airplane mode, or the WIFI icon has been clicked.  Some apps need special permission to use wifi as opposed to cell data.  In other cases, routers or other intermediary devices are set by network administrators to interfere with specific port numbers that devices on the same network use to communicate. Certain networks, especially guest networks are designed to prevent devices connected to the network from interacting with devices on the normal network and perhaps even other devices on the same guest network.
Using virtual local area networks (vlans), many devices connected to the same physical machines may act like they are in completely different networks.
This is the same when one or the other is using a Virtual Private Network, or VPN. Because the VPN creates a tunnel through the original network to create a new virtual start point, devices will act as though they aren't on the same network at all and can not see each other.
Another reason may be that a computer or smart device may have Network Discovery turned "off."  This sometimes looks like an option that says "Let other devices on the network find this device."  With network discovery off, machines are in "listen" or "stealth" mode and don't answer when other devices ask who is around.

I want my printer to print on both sides. How?
In this case, we were using Microsoft Word and a normal home printer.   To do this, generally, open the document you want to print. Go to FILE. Find Print on the blue bar to the left. Scroll down to Settings: and find the white rectangle that says "Print one sided" then select "Manually print on both sides."

If I upgrade my phone, what do I have to do to keep my number?
If the service provider is AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, or any GSM network provider or MNVO, it may be as simple as taking the sim card from the old phone and putting into the new phone. There are 3 sizes of SIM card, however, so if the new phone takes a smaller card, it's usually a matter of buying a new one and having the number "ported" to the new card by calling the cell-phone service company. New cards are available at major retailers for a few dollars and the porting process phone calls can take anywhere from 5-minutes to 30-minutes based on provider and call volume.  Once the port is successful, it can take up to 24 hours for their databases to update, but it's usually a matter of minutes.
For CDMA phones (Verizon and Sprint), the phone is like the SIM, so a porting operation is always required. Verizon and Sprint plus their MNVOs (StraightTalk, Tello, etc.) can generally operate a device built for each other's networks, but the most recent provider must provide an unlock code to release the phone from their own network for it to be able to be used with another service. The same is true for "branded" GSM phones for At&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (StraightTalk, SpeedTalk, MetroPCS, Cricket, etc.).
How do I get files onto the cloud?
There are several cloud storage solutions to choose from. Many create a normal folder on your computer or allow you to select existing folders that become synchronized automatically.  For phones, many manufacturers, such as LG, Samsung, and Apple include software that automatically siphons contacts, photos, and messages off of your phone "for you to recover later."  Most of these do require free account creation.  Most providers, such as Verizon and T-mobile, offer their own cloud-backup and cloud storage solutions either activated automatically at time of service, or as an option. For people who will stick with 1 service provider for life, these can be a very convenient option with good support at local Apple or At&T shops.  For more employees and people who value their own privacy and may transmit sensitive information through texts or calls on their phones, third-party solutions are recommended. It is important to choose a reputable company, but there are some lesser known names that may provide terrific products/service for low or no price.

Can I transmit the video streaming service from my Android phone to my TV?
 
Yes.  There are several methods of "Screen Casting" or "Screen Sharing." Many smart TVs have built-in support for screen sharing without anything else necessary.
For regular TVs, connecting a streaming device such as Roku, Firestick, or AppleTV device is about as easy as connecting a VCR or Blueray player.
